Three people at my office tried to use this, but without success. I don’t know if I got a lemon, but it was quite frustrating and ultimately useless.

This product is a waste of money. For a little bit more you can have a product that will copy more than just business cards. The item claims to copy receipts. However, in today’s world receipts come in many sizes and shapes and this just isn’t a practical item. The neat receipt company has other items that are much better.

1 Star the unit is being returned.
I just received the unit today (Amazon did their usual fast ship trick)

I unpacked it, inserted the CD into my Lenovo laptop (with XP SP3 and current updates), and discovered the hard way after much messing about, uninstalls, reinstalls, and bad words that despite my best installation and tweaking efforts the unit doesn’t work.

there is now a fatal startup SQLDUMPER error (the SQL database apparently corrupted upon installation and has remained so despite best repair and reinstall efforts), and unhappily, discovering after checking on the support website that the unit is NOT supported under XP SP 3. apparently the SQL installed with the unit SQL isn’t too happy with SP 3 either.

so, back in the box, and fill out a return-to-Amazon slip.

the search goes on for a biz card reader. this one AIN’T it… heaven only knows what tweaking it’s going to take to get the corrupt SQL database cleaned up and removed…

for $85 I expected something that worked.

3 Stars Set-up and Wait
The set-up process was a little problematic on Windows XP Professional. I ended up downloading some additional software to make it work. The OCR software is about 90% effective with my first batch of 300 business cards. The case that came with it is big enough for the unit and cords with room to spare. All in all this is a time saving device for me as a business traveler that receives way too many business cards to keep track of. This small device when used with my laptop and BlackBerry helps me stay more efficient.

1 Star Poorly designed user interface, slow performance
Endnote X2 for Mac has one of the least visually-attractive user interfaces I’ve ever encountered and is equally lacking in its ease and convenience of use. Thompson has probably needed to make a conscious, concerted effort to make the user interface this unappealing and un-Mac like as possible.

On-line searching remote sources such as Pubmed has gotten significantly worse in this release. Anybody who as ever done a Pubmed search knows that you’ll usually get two or three references that you want in your library and many others that you don’t want. Despite this, the default behavior of Endnote X2 is to automatically add all the newly found references to your user library, and you then must remove the unwanted references manually. There is a way to work around this, and Thompson claims on their website that they are going to correct this ill-conceived workflow in a future patch. But this is just one example that illustrates the lack of intelligent, user-focused design that characterizes Endnote X2.

Overall, the workflow is unintuitive and clunky. Doing most frequent tasks requires far too many clicks and menu selections Despite my running it on a brand new Macbook Pro, the whole program manages to run very slowly and have the feel of driving cross-country in a a rusted out 1978 Pontiac. You’ll probably get to your destination eventually, but you’ll be nervous the whole way.

Just about the only thing that Endnote X2 for Mac has going for it is large market share and an ability to share libraries with your PC-using colleagues.

4 Stars The best bibliography software
A must-have for every serious writer. The new full text picture does not work very well. But overall a very good product. It will be nice to have the Mac and Windows versions all on one CD.

5 Stars Serious writers take note!
This is an excellent program for searching numerous catalogs around the world and assembling professional bibliographies. The beauty of this program is that it harnesses existing libraries’ search engines (Oxford, Harvard, Yale, Johns Hopkins, Library of Congress, etc…) to find published references. This is infinitely better than scrounging through google for spurious information. Also, since this searching can be done on my mac, I no longer need to sit at the library’s antiquated PC workstations (hoorah!). This allows me to do professional research on my own laptop, which is worth the price by itself.

Originally, I balked at the cost, but after using the 30-day demo to assemble some lengthy and comprehensive bibliographies with little effort, this program had me hooked. I will likely use Endnote in all of my professional work.

1 Star Returned, Not Functional With Mac OSX 10.5 and MSWord
This is a terrible piece of software. The user interface is not intuitive at all and, after just entering 40 citations it consistently froze my version of MSWord. I tried trouble shooting using their online support but nothing helped. I’ve returned the product and will be using Bookends from now on.

Save your money and use something like Bookends or just type your citations by hand. If you choose to use Endnote I would STRONGLY encourage you to keep frequent backups.

Love this product.

Like every program there are somethings that I would’ve liked differently. You can not select more than one transition on the picture movies… you basically can use one for the entire movie or pick random (windows movie maker allows u to use a different one for ever picture). On picture movies it does not allow you to vary the times of each slide and it you can not add movie credits or titles.

5 Stars Kissed A Bunch O’ Toads
Sometimes ya gotta kiss a bunch o’ toads before you find the the magic one. Only problem is in this catagory, they are pretty expensive. Bombed out on Nero and Roxio 2009 Ultimate. Cyberlink DVD Suite 7 Ultra is worth what I paid for all of them.

What can I say? NO PROBLEMS, does a fantastic job right out of the box.

It offers creative flexibility with an intuitive layout and easy-to-use features that are powerful enough for pros while easy enough for beginners. For all of the bells and whistles of the professional DVD there are online resources. There is also a free website to find other people who share your interests. You can keep a record of the movies you’ve watched, comment on them and see the comments of others.

3 Stars Not what it seems
I found the video editing software confusing to use. The way they implement video-enhancing effects, in particular, is awkward. They want you to buy all kinds of add-ons to do what their ads claim it can do out of the box. Also, the version of Power Director 7 that comes in the suite is a cut-down version, not the complete stand-alone version. I have since switched to Adobe Premiere Elements 7, which I find much easier to use.

The Cyberlink will not play many of your Blu Rays. I have done the online update but still can’t play half my collection (all of which play on my Panasonic DVD player).

Player freezes quite often. This is true whether one watches DVD from the DVD player in the PC or directly from a hard disk. Quite a pain.

5 Stars Best PC DVD movie watcher
I had to upgrade because I had been using Cyberlink PowerDVD 6 and it wasnt quite compatible with vista. I used it and love it most of all the movie players. I can control the video better in this powerdvd but 6 kept having to change to Vista Basic scheme as it isnt compatible with that version. I took the plunge and went for the standard version of 9 and it suits me just fine. A little too much with the movie and remix junk i will not use but the funcions are similar but better than the control i had in 6. much better sound and some better TruTheater capabilities for the new movies and for HD type dvd. I havent used any hd /blue ray discs so do not know what is up with them but i have watched new movies on my monitor 1650×1050 near real 1080hd but regardless, I could see such detail in the movie i couldnt believe it. I have no desire to make my own home movies so this was just fine and i use other recode for making my copies or removing codes excess from whatever else I may mix up and copy. I have others (KMP which is good but more labor intensive, NERO I do not use except to burn the odd dvd Toshiba dvd player came with the computer ) I have been happy with clone dvd and any dvd. I have WMP and WMC but rarely use them as they do not compare to the PowerDvd for bottom line ease of use and best control of tweaking differences between and among different era movies and color resolution production qualities.

3 Stars Works… and doesn’t at the same time
This does not work with professional Audio Cards. It does work with consumer video cameras and some hard drives. If your device is powered by the firewire port, you will need to add power to the card because the ExpressCard port does not supply power.

The item works as described on the page. Its nothing out of the ordinary and does the job. Would recommend.

1 Star Card detected; would not detect any attached devices
I bought this for my HP laptop which doesn’t have a FireWire port. The laptop is a dual-core, Vista laptop, so it’s definitely capable of using the card. Although Vista detected the Dynex card itself and correctly installed all of the drivers, *none* of the devices that I attached were detected.

I connected two different DV camcorders and an external FireWire drive. All of these units operated under their own power and (according to the Dynex manual) therefore did not need the additional 12V power supply for the card. None of them were passed through to the operating system even though Vista correctly recognized the card itself.

What’s worse, e-mails to Dynex requesting assistance were sent without a single response.

It’s nice that other reviewers had good or decent luck with their cards. Unfortunately, I can only review on what happened to me, which tells me to recommend that you stay away from this item especially when the company doesn’t respond to their e-mails.
